In the framework of the project "Improving equity in access to early diagnosis of cancer in different health systems in Latin America (EquityCancer-LA)", the II International Workshop is being held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, the host institution.
The meeting will take place between 11 and 15 October, and combines face-to-face and virtual (on-line) participation, to facilitate better attendance by the teams and professionals from the health services involved. The aim is to present the progress made during the first six months of the study, as well as to discuss the methodological aspects of the baseline study. This study, which combines mixed methods research (in-depth interviews, patient surveys and review of medical records) will analyse delays in the diagnosis of the most common cancers, barriers and facilitators in access, the role of primary care and coordination between levels in cancer diagnosis. As a complementary objective, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken to delay cancer diagnosis in the study countries will be analysed. During the workshop there will also be a public presentation of the project in Ecuador with the presence of the country s health authorities, health professionals and academics.
The workshop will be attended by the research teams of the project partners: Latin America (Ecuador, Colombia and Chile) and Europe (Spain, Denmark and Lisbon). It will also be attended by professionals from the participating health services, and experts in the field who are members of national and international scientific committees.
